CONTRIBUTION OF MAHATMA GANDHI TO WOMEN’S WELFARE

Abstract: Many countries have been able to overcome this issue to some extent. But in India, the subject is still persistent and relevant because women continue to struggle in our predominantly patriarchal society. Women are considered the weaker gender and incapable of taking decision on their own. They are expected to follow and live as a dependent on their male counterpart. Mahatma Gandhi the ‘Father of the Nation’ was a strong votary of women empowerment in India. In this paper, an attempt is made to understand the views of Mahatma Gandhi on women and foresee the relevance of his philosophy in twenty-first century India. Need for the hour is not only to educate women so that they attain their rights but to harness the thought process and understanding of males towards females not as a weak gender but of equal cadre. Issues against women like child marriages, rape, domestic violence, sexselective abortion, honour killing, trafficking, sexual harassment, dowry, etc are still prevailing in spite of already established laws against them. Indian women venture out to make careers for themselves but this freedom has made them more susceptible to crime because laws have become inadequate in controlling the situation. The solution lies in making the society more empathetic and liberal towards issues related to gender. Under the guidance of Mahatma Gandhi, we Indians won our freedom, it is veritable that once again by adopting his views and ways we could break the shackles of gender biases.

Abstract: One of the fruitful things that is given by Britain to India, during her reign was the laws of the British legal system especially the concept of criminal justice system and its related legislations. Our Indian Penal Code, Evidence Act and Civil Procedure Code are the products of the British legislators, which underwent only minor changes even after the independence till now. Likewise, the Criminal Procedure Code was also introduced by the British, laid a concrete foundation for the present Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, which deals with the procedure to be followed by various courts in any criminal proceedings. In addition to it, the Act also imposes duties on the police officers who are a part of the criminal justice system in India. This paper focuses on the chapter 19 - ‘Trial of warrant cases by the Magistrates’, which forms a crucial part of the Act.

Abstract: A two dimensional vertically stretching sheet is configured in this study. There is a flow of a non-Newtonian electro-conducting reactive micropolar nanofluid over this device with the influence of activation energy, Brownian movement of tiny particles, thermo-migration of particles and nonlinear thermal radiation. By means of suitable similarity variables, the partial derivatives governing the flow equations are remodeled into ordinary derivatives and afterward solved by using a numerical approach via Runge-Kutta Fehlberg method. The consequences of this study reveal that the micropolar fluid has the tendency to boost the velocity profiles whereas there is a depletion of the momentum boundary layer with higher magnitudes of the magnetic field term. There is a reduction in the nanoparticles concentration profiles with higher values of chemical reaction and Brownian motion whereas the presence of activation energy and thermophoresis term raises the concentration field.

Abstract: The processing byproduct, peanut skin is a hub of antioxidant compounds such as phenol and flavonoids and vital metal chellators including Cu2+ and Zn2+. Adverse exposures to heavy metals like Pb2+ could cause oxidative stress, inflammation and neurological and reproductive disorders. This research aimed to study the phytochemical profile and the rescue effects of peanut skin ethanol extract against lead acetate-induced oxidative stress in Drosophila melanogaster. Phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, steroids, terpenoids, anthraquinones, cardiac glycosides, Methyl palmitate, Ethyl palmitate, Methyl linoleate, Ethyl linoleate, Methyl oleate, Methyl stearates, 156.15mg/g total phenol and 124.83mg/g total flavonoids were detected by phytochemical screening and GC-MS analysis. Peanut skin extract from 31.25µg/ml -500µg/ml exhibited a dose dependent scavenging activity against DPPH and H2O2 radicals at nearly equal strength compared to the standard vitamin C. Lead aceate treated flies had reduced  activities of AChE, SOD, and GPx with concomitant increase in NO and MDA concentrations. This was ameliorated by co-treatment with peanut skin extract or resveratrol through elevation of AChE and SOD, normalization of GPx activities and a corresponding decrease in NO and MDA productions. GSH activity was not significantly affected by lead or the co-treatment with peanut skin extract or resveratrol. Thus this study revealed that peanut skin ethanol extract could be a source of intervention for prevention and treatment of oxidative stress and inflammation related to lead toxicity.

Abstract: In India dowry refers to a property or any valuable security that is given or agreed to be given by one party within a marriage to another party. In India, the part who agreed to give dowry is mainly the parents of a girl to the groom's family. Taking dowry is itself a crime and prohibited as per the “Dowry act 1961”. However, as per this research, it has been found that the act, which is imposed in this country for the prohibition of dowry, was failed due to various limitations within it. Dowry death is a major social issue, where a bride commitssuicide or being killed by their husbands due to their intolerable demand and abusive behaviour. The main aim of this research is to analyse the current state of the dowry system in India and determine the effectiveness of existing legislation in preventing dowry death. As per the literature findings, the major reason behind the dowry death issues within India is the lack of awareness regarding the legislation associated with girls’ education and job opportunities. As per the literature, decreasing rate of dowry deaths in India is mainly caused by regular amendment of legislative structure to seek proper justice. A secondary thematic analysis has been endured in this research to identify various effects of the dowry system, main causes as well as gaps in legislative structure. As per the findings, itcan be stated that proper education and empowerment in India can reduce the tendency of dowry deaths and make women confident to protest.
