Abstract: Of the 133 high vaginal swabs collected from the pregnant women recruited for the study, 13 (9.8%) yielded positive culture for GBS, while 120 (90.2%) were negative. The mean age of pregnant women was 28.71 ± 6.06, years (range 18-42 years). The distribution of the GBS isolate within the age group of subjects as presented in table 4.1, showed high prevalence in the age group of 20 – 29 years (3.8%) followed by 40 – 49 years (3.0%). 30 – 39 years (2.3%) and 10 – 19 years (0.8%) respectively. There was statistically significance in age group (p<0.05). demographic characteristics of pregnant women (education and occupation) as presented in table 4.2, showed high frequency of occurrence of GBS isolates was observed in women with tertiary education (6.8%) and house wives (5.3%) respectively. The obstetrics characteristics of the pregnant women as presented in table 4.3, 12 (9.0%) the 13 GBS positive isolates were from pregnant women with double and multiple parity, and 1 (0.8%) with no parity. The gestational age, 13 (9.8%), GBS isolated in the study were from subjects in the third trimester stage while the previous obstetrics outcome showed had experienced neonatal septicemia case, with 1 case each of preterm and premature delivery, while 5 (3.8%) had no previous clinical history. In clinical sign in pregnant women, frequency of occurrence of GBS isolate were as follows, preterm labor 7 (5.3%), followed with those with vaginal discharge 2.3% and those with no clinical sign 2.3% (P<0.05). The bacteriological characteristics of the GBS showed that increase puss cells were observed in 2 GBS positive cases while co-infection of GBS and yeast were seen in 3 cases (p<0.05).

Abstract: With advancement in technology, constant power supply is an essential means to sustainable economic growth. Power is mostly generated from fossil fuel which has the disadvantages of health risks and also its supply is not sustainable as it is limited in supply. Thus, the need to explore other alternatives that are sustainable, reliable and of less health risk factor. Solar energy is one of the most utilized alternate power source. However, its energy cannot be converted directly into a useful form, solar panels consisting solar cells are utilized in the conversion process. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of environmental factors on output power of monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels with focus on relative humidity and light intensity. Results showed that increase in light intensity is a favorable factor for increase in output power and the current produced by the photovoltaic module while increase in relative humidity results in decrease in output current. It was concluded that, increase in light intensity and decrease in relative humidity results in a higher efficiency of monocrystalline PV module when compared to a polycrystalline PV module.

Abstract: Bacterial diseases in poultry are caused by a vast range of bacteria with typical pathogens being Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, Avibacterium paragallinarum, Clostridium perfringens, Pasteurellam ultocida, and Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, there are food safety bacterial pathogens to consider – the major ones being Campylobacter and Salmonella spp. These diseases fail to attract the media attention and the headlines given to prominent viral infections such as avian influenza and exotic Newcastle disease. Nevertheless, bacterial diseases continue to remain a problem – in productions system based in both the developing world as well as the developed world. The aim of this paper is take a fresh look at the challenges that lie ahead in the prevention and control of these diseases.

Abstract: This study investigates mathematics and the growth of small scale enterprises in Port-Harcourt. The research used a survey design. The sample of the research comprises of one hundred and twenty (120) small scale entrepreneurs. The research was conducted in different business areas of Port-Harcourt through a simple random technique. The researches comprise two Research questions and two hypotheses to guide the study. The instrument of data collection was questionnaires and interviews. Arithmetic mean was used to analyze the result. The result of the data analysis shows significant difference in the mean scores of the small scale entrepreneurs without mathematical skills and the small scale entrepreneurs with mathematical skills in favour of the small scale entrepreneurs with mathematical skills. The finding also revealed that male entrepreneurs with mathematical skills grow their business higher than their female counterparts. It was therefore, recommended that the operators of small scale enterprises should acquire mathematical skill to enhance their business growth.

Abstract: Tagore offered a genuine critique of the glorious past of India, while emulating the worthy ideals of the West. The feminist perspectives of Tagore espousing the amelioration of women are appropriately reflected in the portrayal of women characters in his novels. Understanding the Western culture in a much better light, Tagore displayed the right perspectives of the thematic concerns of significant Victorian women novelists like George Eliot. Capturing the tremors of Virgina Wolfs A Room of One’s Own, Simon De Bovouear’s The Second Sex, Tagore has excelled his contemporaries in a very bold and realistic portrayal of women than the male characters in all his novels.

Abstract: This paper examines how the language of President Barack Obama reflects victory as the main ideology against terrorism. The 9/11 attacks on the World’s Trade Centre and the Pentagon in 2001 announced a new wave of sophistication and complexity in global terrorism as the issues of national security and peace were tested and threatened. The assumption of this paper is that a critical appraisal of Obama’s speech would reveal different shades of ideologies that are subsumed under the ideology of victory. The paper adopts the concepts of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as proposed by Normal Fairclough (1995). The method of analysis is descriptive as the linguistic configuration of the speech provides the entry point of the analysis. The paper concludes that the ideology of victory in the president’s speech espouses other ideologies which justify the pursuit of pacifism in the fight against global terrorism.

Abstract: It is extremely important part of any research as it shows what other researchers have already done and what other investigators are doing contemporarily. In other words, it basically helps the investigators to find various research gaps. It provides insight to investigate about use of methodology. Thus, it provides a critical review and appraisal of the related studies and shows how the related studies contribute towards advancing the present knowledge regarding the specific area under investigation. In order to critically understand and examine the area of research, the investigator went through the available published and unpublished thesis, research reports, text books & conceptual papers, and several other related literatures on women’s education, which provided a clearer insight into the problems and direction for an appropriate methodology. The investigator has examined different literature from books, thesis, research works and survey reports.

Abstract: Jellyfish and sea jellies are the informal common names given to the medusa-phase of certain gelatinous members of the subphylum Medusozoa, a major part of the phylum Cnidaria. Jellyfish are mainly free-swimming marine animals with umbrella-shaped bells and trailing tentacles, although a few are not mobile, being anchored to the seabed by stalks. The bell can pulsate to provide propulsion and highly efficient locomotion. The tentacles are armed with stinging cells and may be used to capture prey and defend against predators. Jellyfish have a complex life cycle; the medusa is normally the sexual phase, the planula larva can disperse widely and is followed by a sedentary polyp phase. This article introduces recent research reports as references in the related studies.
