Abstract: The planned study was conducted with the objectives to find varietal resistance against aphid (Shizaphis graminum Rond) on wheat. Four wheat cultivars i.e. Galaxy-2013, Punjab-2011, Ujala-2016 and Sehar-2006 were sown under randomized complete block design (RCBD) in last week of November with net plot size (1.2m×8m); at Entomological research Area University of agriculture, Faisalabad. Recommended agronomic practices were carried out during experiment. Aphid population density per plant was recorded on weekly basis. Aphid infestation started during last week of January, reached to its peak in mid-March and vanished up to 2nd week of April. Maximum aphid population recorded statistically was 81.43 aphids per plant. In four wheat cultivars Galaxy-2013 came out as most resistant with minimum infestation i.e.59.4 aphids per plant and Sehar-2006 most susceptible with 81.4 aphids per plant. Punjab-2011 and Ujala-2016 were moderately resistant. Galaxy-2013 was most productive in grain yield (5.42 t ha-1) followed by Punjab-2011 (5.17 t ha-1), Sehar-2006(4.88 t ha-1) and Ujala-2016(4.55 t ha-1). Maximum grain yield losses were recorded by Sehar-2006 i.e. 9.3% and Punjab-2011 suffered minimum grain yield losses (4.7%) as compared to control.

Abstract: Intensity of irrigation matter and particularly influences the intensity of cropping, the cropping pattern and the agricultural productivity. The intensity of irrigation is an indicator of irrigation efficiency. It is the ratio of gross area irrigated to net irrigated area in terms of percentage. The higher the index of intensity of irrigation, the higher the irrigation efficiency and lower the index, lower the irrigation efficiency. The intensity of irrigation is not uniform in any agricultural region. In fact, it is controlled by various factors such as source of irrigation, quantity and quality of water supply, density of network of water channels, cropping seasons, types of crops grown and likewise. It also varies from place to place and time to time. Sometimes and several parts of agricultural world, these variation are very important such as India, where unreliability of rainfall continuous to be a feature. The benefits of intense irrigation are reflected in the cropping pattern, land use efficiency, methods of cultivation and yield. In an agricultural region, other things being equal, the intensity of irrigation tend to increase with decreasing rainfall and vice-versa. However, the intensity of irrigation will always remain low and negligible in rain fed areas where there is restricted surface water, limited fresh quality of ground water and hilly or undulating topography. The intensity of irrigation in Haryana has increased from 153.3 percent in the year 1969-70 to 199.18 percent in 2017-18. This increase of 30.65 percent in intensity of irrigation is very significant in state.

A study of post independent Indian society as portrayed in Nissim Ezekiel’s plays

Sanjana Antil

Email: sanjnaantil01@gmail.com

Abstract: Ezekiel‟s poetry seems to be a comment on the Indian social scenario where he tries to present “what”, “how” and “why” of the various aspects of Indian society. He not only tries to highlight the social facts and problems which Indians face because of their poverty, superstitions, squalor etc. but also expresses his deep admiration for the Indian spiritual values. But the admiration for the Indian spiritual values does not mean that he is not aware of the degradation or perversion of the social, moral and spiritual values in the Indian society. He is equally attentive to them as they lead the society to the way of spiritual hypocrisy. Ezekiel‟s India can be highly individual; at times it can also be subjective to the point of being quirky. However, his own gift for telling detail and reference emerges from his outstanding understanding of the society. What is the most amusing fact of his observation is that his observation does not involve the rejection of the aspects of Indian society and life. He sometimes adopts critical language for India. He criticizes her because he loves her. Even the language of Ezekiel‟s poems contains a large amount of “Indian” English. The colloquial language and the frequent use of present tense features the use of “Indian English” by the native Indians. The two are the very prominent features of Indianness in Ezekiel‟s poetry. His poems like “Very Indian Poems in Indian English”, “The Patriot”, “The Professor” and many other such poems work as a subtle comment on English and the way it is used for communication in Indian society.

The Significance of Mythopoeia in Amish Tripathi’s The Shiva Trilogy

Abstract: Amish Tripathi’s debut novel. The Immortals of Meluha (Shiva Trilogy I) can be interpreted from multiple theoretical perspectives. Amish Tripathi is a new Indian English writer who has displayed an unsurpassed brilliance in recreating Hindu mythology. His Shiva is a Tibetan immigrant who migrates to Meluha to lead the Suryavanshi vengeance and destroy evil. Shiva’s clan constitutes a different diasporic community. As a leader of the community Shiva cannot be defined from traditional diasporic perspective. The conventional diasporic consciousness of displacement, dislocation, alienation, nostalgia, desire for the Homeland and identity-crisis is not shared by Shiva’s diasporic community. Infact his tribe is satisfied with the Meluhan scheme of things; Meluhan magnificence has mesmerized their mind. Amish has humanised the legendary figures and mythological characters. His Sati is a Vikrama woman who is supposed to be the carrier of bad fate; inspite of being a subaltern she manifests rare skill of martial arts. The women in the fiction do not demand for political equality, economic rights and social identity; they are embodiments of excellence and perfection. Lady Ayurvati is an experienced, professional doctor who is adept in the prescription of medicine as well as in the conduct of surgery. Kanakhala is the prime minister of emperor Daksha; she looks after the administrative, revenue and protocol matters. The text can also be conceived in ecocritical perspective.

Abstract: In accordance with the weighted density function theory (WDA), another formulation for the non-uniform classical fluids has been suggested. This mentioned formula has been termed as “the modified weighted-density approximation (MWDA)”. One of the first usages of this approximation and one of the primary inputs is choosing the appropriate correlated function related to the interaction of the corresponding sector. For this particular purpose, a different correlated function has been used – such as PY and PELK functions. In this part, we use crystalline solid (BCC) and the correlated function spectacularly. Indeed, for the non-uniform classical fluid, the same approximation of hard spherical molecules will be considered. Eventually, the application of practical consequences relevant to this new approach in the resin and color industries will be surveyed. Besides, we examine the new conditions from the practical perspectives.

Abstract: A cross-sectional study was conducted from December, 2018 to March, 2019 in and around Gozamen district, Northwestern Ethiopia to estimate the prevalence of bovine fasciolosis and to identify the associated risk factors. Simple random sampling was used to select the study animals and coprological examination using sedimentation technique was applied for the recovery of fasciola eggs from freshly collected faecal samples. Out of 384 faecal samples examined, 87 (22.66%) were found positive for bovine fasciolosis. The prevalence of bovine Fasciolosis was higher in local breed cattle (26.22%) than cross breed cattle (12.24%). Similarly, the prevalence of the disease in young and adult cattle was 26.96% and 21.36%, respectively. However, there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between the two breeds and age groups. The prevalence of bovine fasciolosis in female and male cattle was 14.85% and 31.32%, respectively. The highest prevalence of fasciola infection was observed in poor body conditioned animals (26.70%) followed by medium body conditioned animals (20.44%). Whereas, the lowest prevalence of the disease was observed in good body conditioned animals (14.29%). There was also statistically significant difference among in different body conditioned animals and between two sexes (p<0.05). The prevalence of the disease was highest in extensively managed animals (26.45%) in relative to semi intensive (13.95%) and intensive management system (9.09%). And also there was statistically significant difference among the three management systems (p<0.05). Therefore, this study indicated that bovine Fasciolosis is becoming one of the major cattle health problems in and around Gozamen district. Accordingly, farmers should be advised and educated regarding to the reduction of the disease and its intermediate host and also strategic use of de-worming and treatment should be practiced. And also implementation of appropriate grazing management in the study area should be practiced.

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles easily interact with other particles and increases their antibacterial efficiency moreover has received considerable attention due to their attractive chemical, physical and optical properties. The optical properties of silver nanoparticles are highly dependant on the nanoparticle diameter and refractive index near the nanoparticle surface. Silver nanoparticle are extraordinally efficient at absorbing and scattering light due to their optical properties. These particles were synthesized by chemical reduction method of AgNO3 using NaBH4. The borohydride anions were adsorbed onto silver nanoparticles and addition of PVP prevented the aggregation of silver nanoparticles. A yellow colour was given by the silver nanoparticle solution.
